# Exporting

> Getting your recipes back out, in a format something else can read.

Your recipes are yours, and Brewgravity exports them in three formats. Open a recipe
and use the **Export** menu.

> **BeerJSON**
>
> The modern interchange format. Best fidelity, and the right pick if the
> destination supports it.

> **BeerXML**
>
> The universal one. Use this to move a recipe into Brewer's Friend,
> Brewfather, BeerSmith, Brewtarget, or almost anything else.

> **Markdown**
>
> Plain readable text — ingredients, mash schedule, and stats. For pasting
> into a forum post, a brew club email, or a printed sheet for the shed wall.

## Exporting everything

There is no bulk export in the UI today. To pull your whole library at once, use
the API:

```bash theme={null}
curl -s https://brewgravity.com/v1/recipes \
  -H "X-API-Key: $GRAVITY_API_KEY" \
  | jq -r '.[].id' \
  | while read -r id; do
      curl -s "https://brewgravity.com/v1/recipes/$id" \
        -H "X-API-Key: $GRAVITY_API_KEY" > "recipe-$id.json"
    done
```

That writes each recipe, with all of its ingredients and mash steps, as a JSON
file. See [Authentication](/docs/api-reference/authentication) for getting a key.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The API returns Brewgravity's own JSON shape, not BeerJSON. It is a complete
> representation of the recipe — it is simply not the interchange standard. Use
> the **Export** menu when you need a file another brewing app will accept.

## Fermentation data

Fermentation logs export through the API rather than the UI:

```bash theme={null}
curl -s "https://brewgravity.com/v1/sessions/$SESSION_ID/logs" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $GRAVITY_API_KEY"
```

Each reading comes back with its timestamp, gravity, temperature, pH, volume,
and notes — a straightforward source for your own charts or a spreadsheet.
